Two things in my brewery that are difficult to sanitize due to their length are my autosiphon and wine thief. I originally just filled up a carboy with sanitizer and then used the autosiphon to transer all of the sanitizer to another carboy. This worked fine, but I eventually realized that I didn't need to fill an entire carboy to sanitize it. I started mixing one gallon batches of sanitizer, and sloshing it around in the carboy. This worked well to sanitize the fermenter, but not the autosiphon. A fellow homebrewer showed me what he used, so I built it and loved it (for a while). It was simply a PVC tube with an end cap on the bottom and a screw cap on the top filled with sanitizer. You simply put the autosiphon and the end of the autosiphon's hose in the tube and pump it a couple times to circulate the sanitizer through it. This worked great, but became annoying because of the rounded end cap. I would always have to put it in something to keep it upright. After using it for several months, I decided that it needed a small improvement. My improvement was to put a 2" to 3" PVC adapter on the bottom to give it some feet to stand on.

Assembling this is easy. First cut your PVC pipe to your desired length. Cement the test cap into the bottom of your pipe (see picture at right). You may want to make sure that it's cured, and then test for leaks. Next, cement the PVC adapter over end with the test cap. Finally, cement the cleanout fitting on the other end. Let it cure, fill it with sanitizer, and cap it off until you need to sanitize something!
